Get the student deal
by JoJo - Thursday 13th 2004f May 2004
Well, I've been to the CK many, many times and have found that if you go a la carte then your food takes forever to arrive (the logic seemingly that the longer they make you wait, the more pints of Kingfisher you purchase). However, asking for the £10/student deal is guaranteed to get you speedy service; for your crisp clean tenner, you get curry (not king prawn or tikka), pilau rice, naan of your choice and a drink. Plus you can take your own beers - meaning it's in their interests to get you out the door asap as they won't make any profit from beer. The service can definitely be... interesting - last time we went, I ordered a plain naan, which was not forthcoming; the last naan on the waiter's tray was a garlic, and when I asked if there was a plain naan anywhere for me, they asked in return if I liked garlic! I couldn't be bothered to make a fuss so I just took it. We have also been *very* unsubtly 'persuaded' to leave in a "You go now?" kind of way. I reckon it's all part of the experience. And the food's decent enough, too - hardly up to Curry Queen standards, but certainly edible, and lots of it.
