The Maharaja. Very disappointing.
by Amanda Rowan - Monday 17th 2003f November 2003
On a recent visit to Cambridge with two friends, I had highly recommended the Maharaja from previous experiences. Albeit over five years ago - has the restaurant changed managership?? Early evening on Saturday (15th Nov 2003) we tried to book a table to be told we didn't have to book but just turn up. After a couple of drinks in a nearby pub we strolled into the restaurant to be met by a scene of utter chaos. We were invited to have a drink at the already extremely crowded bar in order to wait for a table. People waiting were standing amongst tables of diners already eating. I would have been extremely annoyed had I been one of these diners. There appeared to be absolutely no system in operation for seating potential diners. The staff couldn't possibly have known who to seat next - it appeared to be a lottery when/if you would be seated at all. Needless to say we finished our drinks and beat a hasty retreat.
